Home School Musical
Along with most of America, my kids and I enjoyed watching "High School Musical 2" last night on Disney Channel. I'm sure in time I will tire of hearing the soundtrack blasting through the house, but for now songs like "What Time Is It" and "Humuhumunukunukupaua'a" have fun beat as we sing about beginning summer (well, at the end of summer) and toe-tap our way into another school year.

Which has me thinking.

I think Disney should write a musical called "Home School Musical." It would be a hit! With songs like:

"We're All In This With Mother" (sung joyfully by the students, of course)

"Get'cha Dad In The Game" (sung by Mom)

"(Not Gonna) Stick to the Status Quo" (sung by the cast at a homeschool association meeting)

"When There Was Me and You" (an especially poignant song, sung by Mom and children, reflecting on how it was before they joined a zillion co-ops)

"What Was I Looking For?" (Sung by Mom as she absentmindedly dances about the room)

"Breaking Free" (Well, hyeah! Practically the theme song!)

Can you just hear it now? I think it would be all the rage! What other songs can you think of for this blockbuster new musical?

I'm laughing about "what was I looking for". I was with some friends last night at Scrap n Yap (I'm an avid scrapbooker - though I had baby in tow and only yapped last night). We had a conversation about that phenomenon of going to put something away (say a pile of laundry), getting side-tracked by a toy to put away, which somehow leads to closet reorganization etc etc, and at the end of the day, realizing, the rest of the laundry is still in the dryer waiting to be put away. Ah well...at least we're in good company!

I got side-tracked and forgot to add my musical suggestion. How about "Gimme another peanut butter and honey crust sandwich for lunch" (sung by mom, of course).

Hilarious! And I'm seriously laughing at Sleep Deprived's (writing that out in the possessive feels very funny! LOL) has me laughing even more!

I have done that exact "brainless" routine regarding household tasks more times than I care to admit!

I'm going to have to see the original... Can you believe I haven't seen it yet? For SHAME!

Yes, Sleep-deprived! I do that, too! It's like that book, "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" (if you give a mom a laundry basket...) I do that, too!

And, Nan... this post will make SO much more sense after you see it. The songs are based on *actual* songs from the movie. Go ahead and go watch it. I'll wait.............

That would be the theme song around here. It is already a popular rap song!

Oh Cyndi, this was hysterical! I just finally watched HSM 1 this weekend. It was like Grease for the new generation. I love your song ideas!

blushing here to admit I haven't seen it yet either...I'll have to check and see if netflix has it.

I loved "what was I looking for, too-could be my theme song. Most of the time I am walking around-talking to myself saying, "now, what was I doing??".

cute post Cyndi.

I might have to have my kids make their own Home School Musical! YouTube anyone? Song titles, you did well! So let's see... "Gotta Go My Own Way" works on it's own... "What Time is It?" (for unschoolers who sleep in), and "What I've been Looking For" for new homeschoolers!

Ok my girls are helping me with this one. They say "Mom don't dance".They are constantly saying that to me anyway! LOL They don't appreciate my 80's moves !

"Anonymous" and Cecelia, those are great!! I think my kids might sing "Mom *Please* Don't Dance" for the same reasons, Cecelia, LOL.

I just thought of, "Bid on It" (sung by moms buying their curriculum off of Ebay.)

This is so funny. I told my witty and musical hubby this weekend, "You should totally write a play called 'Home School Musical.'" And that got me thinking that I can't be the first person to think of that. So, I Googled it, and you were on the first page. I love your song ideas. Wouldn't it be a hoot if the idea really DID get written and produced?

Many blessings,
Christi

My wife and I recently had the same idea and if it hasn't been done already I think it could really work.

The thing is I'm a songwriter and musicals are right my alley. In fact, last spring I wrote a number of songs which became part of home school production of Charlotte's Web.

So anyway, when we came up with idea I almost immediately starting getting some inpiration to write some tunes.

If anyone is game I would be happy to send you the first song I wrote and recorded a week or so ago.

If interested, please email me at Stevelarsen99@ameritech.net

BTW, loved your song ideas, I'm sure I could write songs off these.

I'm also sure that if we connect together, we will find ample talent among the home school kids and parents (yes even some Dads who have got in the game) to pull this off.

Perhaps we could start with Youtube videos and then write a script later - who knows.

Take Care,

Steve Larsen
